…..can this stretch to shrimp in the future?
Interesting commentary from Intrafish but hey, its all about marketing….and others, are they not doing much the same?
Actually why bother going further than the Intrafish headline commentary…….things get twisted.
For example we have alternative “shrimp” meat companies (like cell based Shiok Meats) dumping on the shrimp industry (without specifics) as a strategic marketing method……and people (especially vegans) are buying in to the message.
By sending out negative comments Shiok are use the existing shrimp markets to position themselves in a positive light and touting themselves as the best option. Where is the supporting evidence?
Apart from oft repeated mantra’s and sensationalist media bytes.
Would love to see them really state their case.
They decry shrimp as being bad for the environment and full of antibiotics.
The latest is promote their cell based product as cruelty free.
This implies that shrimp farming is cruel.
I am sure Natural Shrimp dump on others also to promote their technology and products as natural and antibiotic free.
“Opens up possibility to disrupt a whole category”….they say. What a load of tosh…
Aquaculture disrupted the seafood category and now supplies over 50% of seafood.
These sort of stories are more like riding on the coat-tails of aquaculture’s success.
Of course if your baseline is zero a small increase is still a huge growth.
But can other protein sources grow over 7% per year for 30 plus years and with no end in sight – like aquaculture has done?
…and here I am content with King prawn.
will vegan shrimp be coming soon to a store near you….
Prawn time still to come…
